Use Eliquis is used for the prevention of venous thromboembolism in patients after planned hip or knee replacement surgery. It is also used for the prevention of stroke and systemic embolism in adult patients with non-valvular atrial fibrillation (NVAF) who have one or more risk factors, such as a history of stroke or transient ischemic attack, age 75 years or older, arterial hypertension, diabetes mellitus, symptomatic chronic heart failure (NYHA class II or higher). How to take Eliquis is taken orally, regardless of food intake. - For patients after planned hip or knee replacement surgery: 1 tablet of 2.5 mg twice a day. The first dose is taken 12-24 hours after surgery. The recommended duration of therapy is 32 to 38 days for patients undergoing hip replacement and 10 to 14 days for knee replacement. - In case of a missed dose: the drug should be taken as soon as possible, and then continue taking it twice a day according to the original schedule. - For patients with atrial fibrillation who require cardioversion: patients who have not been treated with anticoagulants must be prescribed at least 5 doses of Eliquis 5 mg twice a day (2.5 mg twice a day for patients requiring a dose reduction) before cardioversion to achieve adequate anticoagulation. Contraindications Eliquis is contraindicated in patients with creatinine clearance (CrCl) less than 15 ml/min, as well as in patients undergoing dialysis. It is also contraindicated in liver diseases accompanied by blood coagulation disorders and a clinically significant risk of bleeding. The use of the drug in patients with severe hepatic insufficiency is contraindicated.
