Use Allopurinol is used for the treatment and prevention of gout and hyperuricemia of various origins, including conditions accompanied by nephrolithiasis, renal insufficiency, and urate nephropathy. It is also used for recurrent mixed oxalate-calcium kidney stones in the presence of hyperuricosuria and for increased urate formation due to enzymatic disorders. The drug is indicated for the prevention of acute nephropathy during cytostatic and radiation therapy for tumors and leukemias, as well as during complete therapeutic fasting. How to take The dosing regimen is established individually under the control of urate and uric acid concentrations in the blood and urine. It is recommended to take one tablet (300 mg) once a day after meals, with plenty of water. The dose can be adjusted depending on the patient's condition and under the supervision of a doctor. The daily dose of the drug should not exceed 400 mg in three divided doses per day. For moderate severity, the recommended dose is 300-600 mg per day; for severe severity, it is 600-900 mg per day. The maximum daily dose is 900 mg. In children under 15 years of age, the drug is used only for malignant neoplasms (especially leukemias) and certain enzymatic disorders (e.g., Lesch-Nyhan syndrome), with a dose of 10-20 mg/kg/day or 100-400 mg/day. Contraindications Allopurinol is contraindicated in case of hypersensitivity to allopurinol or any of the excipients of the drug. Contraindications also include liver failure, chronic renal failure (azotemia stage), acute gout attack, pregnancy, and breastfeeding. The drug should be used with caution in children under 3 years of age (considering the solid dosage form) and in cases of impaired liver and kidney function (dose reduction is necessary).
