Use Colchicine is used to treat acute attacks of gout. It is also used to prevent gout attacks after starting other medications such as allopurinol, probenecid, and sulfinpyrazone. In addition, Colchicine is used to treat familial Mediterranean fever (periodic disease), including in children, and can be used to treat pericarditis. How to take Colchicine is taken orally in tablet form. It is important to strictly follow the dosage prescribed by your doctor and consult them for any adjustments. A single dose is usually 0.5-1.5 mg, and the frequency of administration and duration of the course depend on the indications and the treatment regimen used. The maximum daily dose should not exceed 8 mg. For the treatment of a gout attack, the recommended loading dose is 2 colchicine tablets, followed by 1 colchicine tablet 1 hour later. The usual dose for preventing gout exacerbations is 0.5 mg two or three times a day. Tablets should be swallowed whole with a glass of water. For adults and children who have difficulty swallowing, the tablet can be dissolved in a glass of water and drunk immediately. If you forget to take a dose, take it as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, do not take the missed dose to avoid a double dose. Contraindications Colchicine is contraindicated during pregnancy and breastfeeding (safety data during lactation are not available). The drug is also contraindicated in severe renal and/or hepatic insufficiency. Colchicine should not be taken if you have hypersensitivity to colchicine or any other component of the drug, or if you are on hemodialysis. Use with caution in elderly patients, and in patients with kidney, gastrointestinal tract, and heart diseases. Storage Store at a temperature between 2 and 25 degreeC. Store in a dark place. Keep out of reach of children.
